The word “motors,” as stated in the title, represents a diverse and complicated topic of study. There are many diferent types of motors, and several diferent methods of converting electrical energy into rotating mechanical energy via electromagnetism. The focus of this book is to understand basic single-phase and three-phase induction motor theory and operation, common motor control circuit schemes, reading, interpreting, and documenting motor control circuit diagrams, and providing practice circuits for connecting the actual motor control circuit components from ladder diagrams. The focus will be limited to single- and three-phase induction motors because they constitute the vast majority of motors the construction electrician will encounter in the field.
